Upon my knee, a dragonfly alights,
hushes my teeming mind,
visits within his six-week life.
I watch, mesmerized.
Sunlight enlivens transparent fields of tipped wings.
Brown segmented abdomen breathes.
Three pairs of jointed legs scrutinize the texture of my slacks.
I watch, pulled from time.
A breeze teases overhanging limb of crepe myrtle.
Dragonfly catapults off my knee,
hovers–wings frozen in flight,
then disappears.
Bereft of my surprise, I ache.
