There is a killing presence in our land:

food pantries emptied, weekly, by the new hungry;
day care centers separate infants from working parents;
ordinances ban the homeless from their corners;
drones and hi-tech tracking devices erode our privacy;
global wars engorge the death culture;
GMO foods create new diseases;
Obamacare will eliminate the useless eaters;
quicksand sucks the global debt.

Something smells. Clearly, someone or something wants us dead.

How address this disorder? Let’s consider the Queen of Hearts, the epitome of evil, in Lewis Carroll’s classic, Alice in Wonderland (1865). Remember her ”Off with their heads!” whenever annoyed or crossed by anyone? Her executioners carrying out her wishes unless bored or distracted?

We read in Chapter VIII, “The Queen’s Croquet Ground:”

“The Queen turned crimson with fury, and after glaring at Alice for a moment like a wild beast, began screaming, ‘Off with her head! Off-!‘”

But Alice discerned the Queen and her power-brokers to be a deck of cards and not to be feared.

“‘Nonsense!’ said Alice, very loudly and decidedly, and the Queen was silent.”
