Dawn crimsons Brace Cove.
Pink glimmerings stipple ocean waters.
Goldenrod shouts among flinty boulders.
A great black-backed gull stands sentinel on a lichen-covered mooring.
She stares.
She waits.
Crimson melds into peaches in cobalt sky.
Crow-witches dart in maddening circles.
The gull turns.
Like a pop-up toy, she pumps, speckled wings searching for wind columns.
She finds one.
Hovers.
Soars.
A scavenger, she swoops up shellfish.
Herring gulls streak in mad pursuit.
Aerial war explodes over hushed waters.
Kwk! Kwk! Kwk!
Yucca! Yucca! Yucca!
